New Year….New Bike

January 25th, 2007

Well with the new year ringing in, a new Fuji CF1 rang in with it.  What a bike.  I can’t describe to you how special this bike is.  From the FSA Vision headset to the Mavic Wheels to the FSA/Dura-Ace crank and derailers, this bike is absolutely flawless.  It also helps that the total weight of the bike is 18.5 lbs.  Not only do you go faster inbetween T1 and T2, but the energy that is saved on this bike is insane.  What also helps out is Art at Action Bikes, putting the bike together.  I couldn’t ask for a more meticulous mechanic to assemble the bike.  Truely one of the better mechanics I have ever met. Also a big thanks to Fuji Bikes for the CF1.

I also found a link for the 2007 Texas triathlon schedule on www.trifind.net/nf/tx.html.  I printed it out and it came out to 29 pages so make sure that your printer has plenty of paper.  Also remember that alot of smaller “mom and pop” tri’s are not listed on this.  You will more than likely have to check at your local bike shop or in the newspaper to find out about these.

I am an IRONMAN!!!

April 19th, 2007

Finally, I have been reaching for this the past 2 years.  2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run.  On top of the outrageous distances, there was a 25 mph wind involved.  I could not have asked for more.  This was a huge accomplishment.  The swim was insane,  there was 2500 people starting at the same time.  Imagine a bunch of fish eating.  I had people swimming over me, punching me, kicking me and probably kissing me.  Anyways after that swim, you just settle in.  When you train your body so intensely for something so special, nothing is going to stop you.  I was absolutely focused for this event.  A friend of mine, Rodney Vigil was awesome on this course and did a heck of a job getting ready for the race.

So what is next?  It was hard to say after the race.  Where do I go from here? What can I do?  What is going to push me?  More importantly, what is the motivation?  It takes so much out of me getting ready for something like this.  That is where the unlikely motivation whispered out ”I’m doing one of these next year”.  I could not believe it!  My brother Erich was pumped after Arizona.  He wants to do Ironman Florida 2008.  After being exposed to that environment and that atmosphere, he is hooked.  When that came out, I got pumped.  It was the day after the race and I was already looking forward to Florida 2008.  I cant stop thinking about the race.  Erich has me more pumped for Florida than I ever was for Arizona!

Mom get ready to have both of your sons heading to Panama City, and it wont be for Spring Break.  Ironman Florida 2008 is the new energy pushing my brother and I and this is going to be one heck of a time!

Lets go Team Schraub.

Buffalo Springs Lake Ironman 70.3

June 28th, 2007

What a Weekend! First of all big shout out to everyone that made this race one of the best that I have ever competed in! I had a great time before, during and after this race. The weather was definitely on our side; however the damn hills were still on the course. Is there anyway that we can make those things disappear next year? I guess that is what makes this course one of the more difficult courses in the 70.3 series. Good race to everyone, and I can’t wait to go again next year. This race was planned a little differently than the ones that I have raced in the past. It has been a little difficult to train since the Ironman Arizona race. My weight training has been up to par but the biking and running has not been where it should be, and that was evident during this race. Bay Bay McClinton and his staff at All Sports was a big help in getting my VO2 where it needs to be over the past month. If anyone needs help with their VO2 and explosive speed give All Sports a call. Basically, I decided to do this race on Saturday morning. Rodney and I made that 6 hour drive to Lubbock and competed the next morning. It was what it was and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Good race to all, and hope to see all the same people again next year. First at the race, then at Crickets afterwards! And to Kelly, congrats on qualifying for the world championships in Clearwater.
